"Da Bears"

>> 09 December 2009

I have watched this video twice now, and for some reason, I still have a hard time accepting that it is real.

Questions for Discussion:

  1. Would you pay to see a bear hockey match?
  2. How much would you have to get paid to agree to be the referee for this game?
  3. And who organized this game in the first place?
  4. Do you think this was done by the USSR?
  5. How hard is it to train a bear to ice-skate?
  6. How were these bears selected for the game? Were there tryouts?
  7. Who would win in a hockey match: Wayne Gretzky or a Brown Bear?

Incredible. I too am having a hard time accepting the reality of it. But without a doubt, I'd pay to see them play. ... and I'm sure a bear would beat out Gretzky - or at least he'd win when body slamming.

Wow. Just when I thought I had seen it all. Plus, now we know what they were doing for all those years in Russia.

People know that Wayne Gretzky is the greatest Hockey player of all time, BUT what they do not know is how much greater he was than everyone else. Here are a few notable points:
1. Gretzky hold the record for goals scored in a season - 92, the best you'll do nowadays is someone nears 60.
2. On the list of the ten highest goal totals for one season, Gretzky has 4 of those
3. Gretzky holds the record for assists in one season - 163. Second place: Gretzky. Third, Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, Seventh, Eighth, Tenth, and Eleventh: Gretzky.
4. Points (Goals + Assists) in one season - 215 by Gretzky. Second, Third, Fourth, Sixth, Seventh, Eighth, Tenth: Also Gretzky.
5. Career Leader in Goals (894), Assists (1963), and Points (2857) - Gretzky, who did it in 6, 3, and 3 fewer seasons, respectively, than the second place player.
6. His assist total alone would make him the all time point leader.
7. He led the league in scoring 10 times (which by now should be no surprise to you).
8. He won the Hart Trophy (NHL MVP) 9 times, including 8 years in a row! Gordie Howe is the next highest with 6.

But gun to my head: I might go with the bear. That is one powerful slapshot.
